Parents and Students,

 

We hope you are having a very relaxing and enjoyable fall break.  As we prepare for the second quarter of this school year, please take a moment and glance at the upcoming band dates on your calendar.  This is a very busy time of year for us and we don’t want anyone to miss out on anything.

 

First on the list is Middle School Band Night at THS!  This happens on October 22^nd which is different than what is listed on the calendars you were given. This is the Tullahoma vs. Siegel game and it has been moved to Thursday night so it can be televised!  The middle students will report to the high school band room at 4:00 that day for a quick rehearsal and pizza supper provided by the THS Band Students. The middle school students will need to wear their TMS Band Sweatshirts on the 22^nd.  These can be purchased after fall break for $15.  (Checks should be made to TMS Band)

 

Mid-State Band auditions will be upon us before we know it (December 5^th).  Making Mid-State Band should be a year round effort.  If you’re not already preparing yourself for auditions, don’t wait another minute.  Students hoping to make Mid-State should be working daily on scales and sight-reading.  Audition pieces were given out before fall break.  They are very challenging and should be given lots of attention.  After Fall Break, students are encouraged to go to the THS Band Room for daily after school mid-state help.  Directors and students will be available to help.  Many of the students helping have made mid-state band on the same audition pieces being used this year.  Students that make Mid-State Band will attend the clinic January 7^th – 9^th.  Mid-State Jazz is the following weekend. Registration forms will be due by October 30^th with your $10 registration fee (made to TMS Band). We will need parent chaperones for both the audition day and the clinic weekend. Please contact a director if you can help.

 

The Tullahoma Christmas Parade is December 4^th.  The TMS Band will march and play in the parade. Parents are needed to walk beside the band.  Please contact a director if you are willing to help. More information on this later.

 

Our Christmas Concert is on December 13^th.  It will be held at King’s Cross Church.

 

8^th Grade students and parents, be aware!  The field show the high school band performs every Friday night and competes with in the fall is a very time and labor intensive endeavor.  Many hours go into writing and learning the show.  Because of this, we must insist that every member of the band attend every performance.  It makes it very difficult for the other members of the band to perform the show accurately when people are missing.  In the spring, we will give you a detailed calendar of fall and spring events and ask you to sign a performance agreement that lists any conflicts with performance dates.  We can already tell you; we have four competition dates.  These dates are: September 11^th, 18^th, 25^th, and October 2^nd of 2010. Please notice the last date is the first Saturday of Fall Break.  Please do not schedule your vacations over this competition.
